FAQ'S

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about my cakes and cakes in general.

What is fondant? Fondant is an edible dough like icing that covers cakes and looks super smooth.  Fondant can be homemade or purchased pre-made and is frequently used  on wedding cakes.

What is the difference between homemade fondant and ready-made fondant?  Homemade fondant can be flavored to your liking, but is unpredictable. Weather can play a huge factor with fondant.  Ready-made fondant is easier to use.  It performs well in most weather conditions.  Ready-made fondant is used most often by bakeries because it saves time and when you have several cakes do at once.  I use both Satin Ice fondant and Marshmallow Fondant (MMF)

What is Gum-paste? Gum-paste (or sugar paste) is a clay like mixture with gum-tex mixed in to make it pliable.  It is widely used to make flowers on wedding cakes.  Although gum paste is edible, it does not taste very good and gets very hard.

What is Marzipan?  Marzipan is similiar to fondant only it's made with almond paste and ground almonds. It is used to make a lot of the fruit decorations you see on cakes.  I do not use Marzipan on my cakes.

What are chocolate transfer sheets? Chocolate transfer sheets are edible sheets of chocolate with designs on them.  Melted chocolate is poured over them and the design sticks to the chocolate.  The designs are tasteless and come in many different styles.

Why do fondant cakes cost so much?  Fondant is harder to work with and takes a lot more time than buttercream.  I find the results however, are a lot more visually stunning.
What if I don't see a cake I like? The cakes shown are just a sample of what I can do.  Just let me know what you want and I'll do my best to accommodate you.
What if I like a cake I see but not the color? Cakes can be made in any color you wish.
What is the difference between a tiered cake and a stacked cake? A stacked cake is a layered cake with no separation between the layers.  A tiered cake is a layered cake with separations between the sizes using columns or other decorations.
Do  you accommodate for allergies?  Yes.  There is a $5 extra fee. I  also am a nut free company.
Do you deliver the cakes or do I pick them up? Because the business is run out of my home, the cakes must be delivered. There is a delivery fee for any deliveries made outside of Saugus.
How much notice needs to be given for one of my cakes? For most cakes, 2-4 weeks notice is needed.  Cakes with chocolate transfers need at least 4 weeks as the sheets have to be ordered.
What is your payment policy? Payment is due in full one week prior to your scheduled date.  Deposits for all wedding cakes due at the time of booking.
Do you offer licensed character cakes?  Sort of.....  Because of copyright laws I can only do a character cake if the character is a cake topper.  (or if you have a figure you have bought)  For example, I wouldn't be able to do a cake in the shape of Elmo but I could do a cake that has a Sesame Street feel to it and then put an Elmo cake topper on it.

Do you use real flowers on your cakes? No I do not.  Real flowers can be toxic and the pollen can cause severe allergic reactions to people who are allergic.  Even the non-toxic flowers can still be toxic because of the pesticides used.  However there are many silk flowers that look real.
Why are cupcakes so expensive? Believe it or not cupcakes can be just as time consuming as a cake.  In some cases they can actually take longer to make.
